'Unpick and Knit Again' - Heirloom Collection I

This design is proposed to be used within contemporary garment construction. Taking inspiration from the 1940s Make do and Mend ‘Unpick and Knit again’ strategy, which was used to prolong the life of garments, wearers are able to remove cuffs when they become worn out.

“When we make, mend, rework our own garments and undertake personal wardrobe projects, we energise our relationship with our clothes” - Amy Twigger Holroyd. These ‘easy alterations’ help to reconnect wearers with their wardrobe.

This design also won the Gold Award for Fashion and Textiles in the Creative Conscience awards.

This design was awarded a Commendation in the Bradford Textile Society Design competition 'Responsible Design' category, awarded by the Association of Fashion and Textile Courses.
